Deer Valley Estates is a 360 acre plat of privately owned lots adjacent to the San Juan National Forest  in Southwest Colorado. Located at Milepost 109  on U.S. Highway 160 six miles east of the small community of Bayfield, Deer Valley is 25 miles from Durango to the west and 35 miles from Pagosa Springs to the east. The Southwest Colorado area has an interesting history as does Deer Valley, and the wildlife in and around Deer Valley is plentiful. Above all, the Deer Valley Property Owners' Association works hard to maintain the big picture (USGS aerial photo, 9-22-94). Also, a zoomable aerial photo is available online at Terraserver.

Deer Valley Estates recently earned Firewise Communities/USA recognition!:

Wildfires are not at all unusual in the area and are of a seasonal nature. The most Predominate fire threat is to the south and west of DVE on the San Juan National Forest within the Saul’s Creek area. Fires within the development are most unusual, with only one occurring in the last 25 years which was contained to approximately one (1) acre. The Missionary Ridge fire of 2002 (although not close to DVE), forced the local residents living in forested environs to further assess the hazards of living in the Wildland Interface. Because of its efforts to reduce the vulnerability of homes and landscapes to wildfire, Deer Valley Estates recently earned Firewise Communities/USA® recognition from the National Firewise Communities Program.
